Pioneer DVR-219LBK 24x Internal DVD/CD Writer with LabelFlash Excellen Package and Quality
Makes compatible DVD-Rs, (What's this?) My old computer has a Pioneer DVR-108 burner that makes write once and rewritable DVD s that seemed to be compatible with any player, especially a set top Pioneer DVD-343 player from the year 2000. The owner's manual of the 343 does not claim compatibility with any recordable media.
Write once discs burned on my new computer work poorly on the old 343. They work on newer DVD players that claim to be compatible with recordable media. Oddly, the rewritable discs made on this machine work well on anything. Rewritable discs are supposed to be the troublesome ones. Updating the burner's firmware helped, but did not fix the problem. DVD+R discs may have been better, but still had problems.
I bought this Pioneer DVR-219LBK from Amazon in the hope that it would burn write once discs that would work on the old 343. They do, and I am now very happy. I have not tried the Labelflash feature.
Before you buy this model, beware: This is an OEM model. There is no owners manual and no software. Also, it has only the up to date SATA signal and power connections. It will not work as a replacement burner for older computers. Pioneer has other models that will. This is why I couldn't just put the old Pioneer DVD burner into the new computer.
Not a good quality drive., (What's this?) Was unimpressed with this drive when I first received it. I've used Pioneer burners for years but every once in awhile they release a real dog of a drive. This one is a dog.
Felt flimsy from the minute I took it out of the box. Pioneer burners of my past always felt like they were built like a battle-tank. Not this one. Can't quite put my finger on it but it just reeks of cheap. Installed fine and worked like a champ for almost 2 months. Then...
Tonight, less than 60 days from purchase, it up and died on me. Put in a disc and you get a resulting loud "clunk" emanating from the drive. That doesn't sound good, nope.

Fast. Really Fast., (What's this?) I had a Pioneer 218 in my external enclosure and needed to replace it because a cracked DVD from Neflix exploded inside it and damaged it. (Caution: always examine them before inserting them) This one is only one generation newer but substantially faster and so far I have gotten no errors when writing/reading at full speed. Love it.
dont work, (What's this?) I havent been able to use the two pioneer dvd writers since i got them,they dont work.I installed them,they come up as dvd roms,but dont read,write or anything but make noise.I thought to myself how can i get two dvd writers at the same time that dont work but i did. this has been irritating.kinda makes me fear ordering online much more.the pain of having to ship the stuff back then wait for new to be shipped.it would of been better to just spend extra money and get it at a store.

Samsung 22X DVDRW Internal PATA DVD Speed Plus Writer Drive SH-S222A/BEBE - Bulk (Black) what happened?
Not listed properly!, (What's this?) This drive would not work on my computer. It is NOT an IDE drive! It is a PATA drive. The connector looks the same, but my computer would not recognize the drive. I asked for a refund, and when the vendor sent my return authorization, the item I had bought was listed as a PATA drive.
Good Drive, Good Price, (What's this?) I purchased this Samsung WriteMaster to replace the factory disc drive in an Emachine that eventually failed after four years of use. Installation was quick and the machine recogized the drive after booting up. I've always had good luck with Samsung products and wouldn't hesitate to make the same purchase again.
DVDRW drive, (What's this?) I purchased the drive as a direct replacement for an original and it functions and performes as it should so for the price I consider it a great replacement product.
My Satisfaction on Service and product, I am very happy with the speedy delivery and the product.The ease of finding it and ordering it was also pleasant.

what happened?, (What's this?) Had one of these last thru 400 burns.....the next one made it thru 10.....the next one was the same way out of the box......slow-slow-slow. I give up.

LITE-ON 4x Blu-ray Disc SATA Internal Optical Drive iHOS104 came with software
The software does suck though. I installed it in Vista and it won't recognize it as a Blu-Ray drive and refuses to play anything even after updating the software. I gave up and used it in my Linus partition but I really disappointed in the fact that the bundled software does not work and I have tried it multiple times in two different computers.
Bait and Switch, (What's this?) I ordered this blue rewritable drive - which the picture shows and the specifications stated - but Amazon kept sending me (after I returned the first one) the cheaper non-rewritable black model. When I went back to pull up the product page, the blue drive suddenly vanished from the web site having been replaced by the cheaper black read-only model. Don't buy this item because Amazon's trying to pull a fast one.
came with software, (What's this?) Got this Blue ray for my Dad PC, it worked OK and came with a old version software but it worked like a charm for him. I would use again because I have installed several Blue ray drive and must do not come with any software that can cost up to $100.00 if you have to buy it later. The drive work great 1 yr later.
Great Blu-ray drive, (What's this?) The drive was very easy to install and Windows7 saw it and loaded the driver without issue. I installed the software that came with the drive and started watching a Blu-ray movie on my computer. Couldn't have been easier. Great deal.
It is what it says, (What's this?) Works great! Easy to install.....2 screws 2 wires no bigger. Throw in software...install....MOVIE TIME! Software could be better, but it works. All in all I am very happy, great product at great price.
Simple DVD Blue ray player, (What's this?) I only have the unit to play movies off of one of
my computer. I had no need for burning with it.
windows 7 keep losing it, After 2 months, windows started to lose the drivers for this diskk drive. if you are lucky enough to find the latest firmware, windows can't initiate the device.
Does not play nice with Linux, (What's this?) If you're going to use this drive in windows, it works fine. It will do the job.
If you dabble in linux at all, dont expect this drive to play nice at all. Ive tried several 11.04 ubuntu distros, and have had one install so far using this drive, vanilla Ubuntu 10.04. After it was complete, it did not recognize the drive.
Plays everything I throw at it, (What's this?) Summary:

* device installs easily, is quiet, and works well with all DVDs, blu-rays, 3D blu-rays I threw at it.
* review does NOT include the PowerDVD software provided with the device. (used ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre instead)
IMPORTANT: this is a Blu-ray READER. I saw people complaining they cannot write with the device. If you need something to WRITE blu-rays or DVDs, this device is NOT for you.
Don't buy if you want to watch Blu-Ray on your computer, (What's this?)
